Logistics management is the part of the supply chain that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customer requirements.

International liner shipping is a sophisticated network of regularly scheduled services that transports goods from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world at low cost and with greater energy efficiency than any other form of international transportation.

3. Role of Freight Forwarder / NVOCC in International Trade

The freight forwarder has always played an important role in commerce and international carriage of goods. Traditionally the freight forwarder was the link between the owner of the goods and the carrier, and provided forwarding or clearing services. The forwarder acted as the agent for the cargo owner, and in some cases at the same time for the carrier.

10. Port Operations

Ports are historic, commercial and infrastructural assets that form the backbone of national and regional economics. Seaports are a haven with facilities for berthing and anchoring ships and providing equipment for transfer of goods from ship-shore, shore-ship & ship-ship.

Most commercial packaging serves two basic functions: protecting the product from damage during shipping, and promoting the product to the ultimate consumer. Some common types of packaging includes pallet, carton, bags, pails, can, etc.

A commodity that are determined by the Department of Transportation to be capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety and property, when transported in commerce. These commodities may endanger the safety of a Ship or persons on board. The sea transportation of these dangerous materials can either be forbidden or restricted. Grouping of Dangerous Goods by Type of Risk Involved, this grouping was drawn up by the UN Committee of Experts on Transport.

Marine Insurance covers the loss or damage of ships, cargo, terminals, and any transport or cargo by which property is transferred, acquired, or held between the points of origin and final destination.

Chartering is a kind of contract for commercial leasing of a vessel or space on a vessel. Contract will be on the Rate, duration and terms agreed between the shipowner and the charterer.

25. Advance Cargo Declaration – AMS, ACI & ENS
